My approach to make students learn is firstly work with vocabulary, grammar, reading and interpretatio n of several interesting texts circulating in the media, such as emails, opinion articles, news articles, reportage, poetry, lyrics music, advertisement s etc.. I have 21 years of experience in teaching languages. I have taught all levels and purposes. I have taught either Portuguese or English to students aged 5 to 65 and from 29 different countries (including 14 European, 5 Asian, 5 African, 1 Middle Eastern and 3 American countries). I have a full-degree in Psychology and I have written a monograph on language acquisition entitled: The Innate Aspect in Language Acquisition – a study of language acquisition under Chomsky’s perspective. As a psychologist, my approach will take into consideration the student pace and needs and make use of a number of techniques to make learning more pleasant and dynamic. I haven’t included in my CV but in total, I have taught in 10 different institutions. I have experience in preparing materials for classes. The approach will also depend on the students interests, but essentially I try to add flavour to the lessons, by focusing on culture and geography (of my native country, Portugal) and also try to use original elements such as games, songs, internet sites, etc. It is my understanding that learning grammar is necessary to understand the structure of a language, but the way it's taught will depend on the student. I believe the best approach is to provide exercices that make the student discover how the language works by himself, this has proven to increase understanding , memory and motivation. |
