Description

Reason for learning: future travel to Pashto speaking areas.

Pro ficiency level: beginner, but familiar with Arabic script.

Ti me available for lessons: one to two hours per week, preferably divided into 30 or 40 minute sessions.

Qualities expected in lessons/teach er: I would like regular homework, divided into vocabulary lists, (approx. 15 words per day) and grammar practice, i.e. constructing sentences on my own using the vocabulary and grammar learned in previous lessons. I expect my teacher to spend approximately 30% of the lesson time correcting my homework together with me, and explaining any errors, and 70% of the lesson time explaining new grammar, vocabulary, and cultural concepts. I also want to learn about Afghan and Pakistani society, specifically in the Pashto speaking areas.

I am used to learning foreign languages on my own, I have learned six foreign languages already, largely with no lessons. Therefore I expect to spend a fair amount of time studying Pashto on my own, and I would rely on the teacher for regular support and correction.
