We are seeking a tutor with patience to teach us Cantonese. The reason is, we are planning to go to China (Hoi Ping) in January or February 2009. We have family in China whom we haven't seen in over 50 years. As we are unable to communicate with them, it would be a great joy to us and to them if we were to speak with them in their own language.

I signed up for a cantonese class in Vancouver years ago but it was cancelled because only 3 students. I have had an interest in Cantonese for some time and when recently in Vancouver witnessed a Canadian talking to some folks at the airport in Cantonese and it really inspired me again. I am a beginner at learning Cantonese, and my native language is english. I am interested in learning Cantonese for recreation and for conversations with people. I will be moving to Toronto in a few years and the area I live will be primarily Hong Kong population.
I would like to have 1-2 lessons a week. I would like an understanding teacher who is patient, and up to date in more common ways of speaking. I really want to learn casual conversation; I am not too interested in learning how to read and write in Chinese.
