I am at the beginner level. I know some words and phrases, but nothing about grammar. I would like to learn serbian because my fiance and his family are from there and I would like to one day pass down the language. I would like to be able to speak it fluently if I ever do have kids. I am a government employee seeking to learn Serbo-Croatia n for two primary reasons: career advancment and to reintroduce the language into my family. I must confess that I have no experience in the language, but my serious study habits will more than make up for the lack of experience. I maintained a 3.9 in undergraduate school, and I am currently maintaining a 4.0 as a graduate student in security policy studies. In addition, as a prior active duty Marine Officer, I am capable of a degree of dedication unparalleled by most of my peers.
As a full-time employee and part-time grad student, I am seeking a teacher who doesn't mind conducting night classes. I am open to suggestions as to how often I should meet with the instructor; they know more than I do about the best methods for learning this language. However, I am more inclined to the idea of meeting once a week for two to three hours, the purpose of which would be to give me a sound base to run with the rest of the week. (The frequency with which I meet the teacher can increase between graduate semesters.)

I am an intermediate in Serbian-Croat ian. I studied at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. My last test scores were in March 2005 with Reading level 3 and Listening level 3. My last oral proficiency was in October 2001 with a level of 1+. I just seperated from the Army and would like to continue my language study, as I worked very hard to attain the level I am at currently.
I would like to meet maybe once a week at first to see how I am balancing my work and studies. I would not mind meeting in small groups, but I prefer face to face meetings.

I am a beginner, the only word I know in Serbian is Zdravo! I am learning this language because my girlfriend is of Serbian descent and I want to surprise her on her birthday next year (August 2006) by showing her my proficiency and progress. I would like to be able to converse in the Serbian language. I would like to dedicate as much as necessary to become semi-fluent. A teacher with patience but at the same time will push me to learn when the going gets tough.
