My husband recently was offered a job in Shanghai. We will be moving towards the end of February and need to gain as much knowledge of the language as possible. Neither of us have any experience speaking chinese so we will be starting from scratch. We both have studied other languages so we know how difficult it can be and how much time is involved. We are hoping to be able to meet twice a week in the evenings after my husband gets off work. We would love to start as soon as possible, it will be very helpful in his job as well as our overall living experience in Shanghai if we can leave with some conversationa l chinese under our belt. I am interested in learning Mandarin Chinese for personal interest and to acquire a new business skill. I am male, 54 years old, professionall y employed, and have not previously studied Chinese. During the last few years I have visited companies in Beijing and Shanghai, and have had projects in Malaysia and Japan.
To achieve my desired pace for learning Chinese (speaking and writing) I would like to meet twice each week for, say, 10 weeks. Would you be available for tutoring in January to March? My 16 year old son Lee needs some help with his Japanese class. I think a 1 on 1 would be a better enviorment for him to learn in. He seems to do ok in his class work but is failing his tests.
