I am a recent college graduate who is interested in national security and counterinsurg ency policy, and wants to learn Persian in order to help kickstart a career in these fields as they relate to Iran and Afghanistan. I have zero knowledge of Persian at the moment, but I want to study it intensively this summer, probably on the order of ten hours of lessons per week (with an equivalent amount of time to be spent on homework). I want a teacher who is fun without being lax, who is knowledgeable about the roots and nuances of the language (because I am a very inquisitive learner), and who is willing to push me hard.

I would like to learn Mandarin because it is the predominant language in Singapore other than English and many of my friends speak it. Also, I believe it would help in business interactions. I have never taken a Mandarin class before, though I have studied 3 other languages. I'm looking to spend 3 days a week learning, about 1.5 hrs each and I'm looking for a teacher that has a very structured course but is flexible to answer questions or deviate from the lessons a bit to tailor my learning.
