Hi, I'm 30 years old, live in sacramento and was born in Vietnam but cannot speak the language. I vaguely understand bits and pieces. I have tried taking a course at Sac City College but was embarrassed because the teacher kept making funny of me openly. My parents tried to teach me but they too make fun of me. The vietnamese church won't accept adults in their classes and I can't tell if I am pronouncing the words right on the CDs I purchased online. I'm looking for someone who has patience and won't make fun of the fact that I have a hard time pronouncing words even though it is my native language.

I know some basic grammar (regular conjugation, some basic irregulars) and have a minimal phrasebook vocabulary ('How are you? Where is Bob?' etc) in Farsi, but I am very motivated to become conversationa l in it.
I work and socialize with a number of Persians. While
they'r e supportive of my learning Farsi, we really don't
have many opportunities to get together and actually _study_ the language. I'm fortunate in that I have access to native speakers, but I lack a formalized curriculum or
student/t eacher environment.
My goal is to become conversationa lly proficient in Farsi. I'm willing to dedicate a couple (4-5) hours a week to this, as well as study on my own time. I have a few books on it (a phrase book, Thackston's grammar book, a dictionary), but frankly could use some correction. I have no knowledge of Persian script- while this interests me, it's not a priority.
I'm looking for an instructor who can help me get organized and methodical in learning the language, who's motivated to teach, and who doesn't mind a lot of questions.

I have a consulting business and many of my clients are Italian residents and speak little or no english. I need to be able to converse with them. I AM A BEGINNER. I go to school part time, but I am willing to devote as much time as possible to learn. I want my instructor to be personable and patient.

I have studied in Killyleagh, Co. Down, Belfast, and Philadelphia. I am now using tapes. I earned a silver fainne in Belfast but need contact with other speakers of any level. I prefer continuing the Ulster dialect.
I am learning because I love the language.
I need to work on all areas -- vocabulary building, grammar, conversation, reading, writing, etc.
I am currently available any evening except Monday.
Th e teacher I hope to find will help me progress. I prefer a class setting, if at all possible.
