I am a complete beginner, having only memorized a few basic greetings, etc.
I am interested in dedicating a large amount of time to lessons. I would like to become somewhat fluent as fast as possible, and enjoy learning.

I am a female. would like to learn Mandarin in order to communicate with my Mother's side of the family. I can understand basic Hokkien (which is a dialect of chinese spoken in Malaysia) which is very different from Mandarin. However, I have the ability to hear several tones in the same 'word' and understand them as separate meanings.
I am willing to dedicate 2 hours a week to learning (and several hours of practice / homework)
I would like to do a few trial lessons and then determine a longer-term commitment after a trial period of about 4 weeks. Sunday mornings 10am-Noon at my apartment at the South End of Halifax. (-:
