I would have to classify myself as a 'beginner-int ermediate' in that I have some history of formal language training in German, although many years in the past. I had 1 year of German in high school (ca. 1955-56), 2 years in college as an undergraduate , and took a German foreign language exam as one of my requirements for my Ph.D. obtained in 1971. Secondly, and one of the main reasons for my interest now, is that I have a native German daughter-in-l aw who is pregnant with our 1st (biological) grandchild. Both my son and she speak the language, and her parents, living in German, speak no English. The child will no doubt be at least bilingual and I would like to be able to be so as well. I believe it would also help my daughter-in-l aw to feel more comfortable. Additionally, I have maintained an interest in languages in general, particularly in German, though I have not used it much. I am told that my pronunciation remains quite good and I can still identify the meaning of many words. I have the 'Kontakte: A Communicative Approach' program (text, 4th ed., 'Arbeitsbuch' , 4th ed., to accompany the Kontakte text, and the Kontakte student audio CD, to accompany both). The authors are: Terrell, Tschirner, and Nikolai.
My focus would largely be on vocabulary, grammer, and conversation (speaking and writing). I would expect to devote the time necessary to accomplish my goals in the language. It would be most convenient if lessons could be via the internet with the possibility of audio and visual contact. In person contact would also be possible depending on proximity. I would expect my tutor/teacher to be native in the language or at least extremely proficient, to be a sensitive and positive instructor (vs. critical and demanding)and be respectful of the new learning process.

In German, I would consider myself to be an intermidiate. It will help me in my future career as a business person. Grammar and conversation are the areas that I need help. I willing to dedicate as much time as I need. I'm looking for a native speaker or someone who speaks the language well.

I would like to learn german, I'm just a beginner, I have no experience with German at all. I want to expand my career opportunities and learn the culture. I need to learn everything that there is to be about the German Language. I would like to dedicate at least one hour a day every week to the language, and I would like to have a teacher that is availabe at nights during the week, that teaches several other students ,or one-on-one. : My German is beginner-inte rmediate. I have taken two courses at the University of Vienna, Austria and have lived in Austria for a year and a half as a student.

Hello--
Aft er a wonderful trip to Germany in November, my husband & I are looking for a German and a French language instructor, preferably native speakers. (However, if we found one person who could teach us both we would consider that situation.) I have some very rusty high school French-- my husband has no foreign language learning experience. We are very eager to travel to Europe again, armed with language skills!! Our goals would be to be able to converse comfortably for travel purposes, and to read adequately.
