I am a recent college graduate who will be studying at the University of Iceland next year. I have studied the Iceladic Sagas and Old Norse for a year and a half, and want to learn modern Icelandic. I have some knowledge of basic vocabulary and grammatical rules, but would pretty much need to start from scratch. I would like to grasp basic grammar/vocab ulary and begin to learn conversationa l Icelandic. I would like to meet once a week, possibly twice, from the begiing of June 2004 through the end of August, 2004. I am looking for a natice Icelandic speaker with a good understanding of how to teach a language to a beginner. I am hoping that s/he will recommend some good Icelandic text books for me to purchse.

I am a beginner in Icelandic. I first visited the country last fall and am developing some scientific collaboration s with Icelanders, and some friendships as well. I would like to learn the language to facilitate these contacts, and to challenge myself mentally. But I find it very difficult, and could particularly use help in grammar (verb tenses and declensions), reading comprehension , and conversation. I currently spend 15-20 minutes per day at it and would like to spend 1-2 hours per week with a teacher, either on-line or in person. It would be helpful if lessons could explain and supplement the exercises I'm trying to do in Neijmann's and Einarsson's books.

i am just beginning to learn icelandic. i am learning it because i am fascinated with the culture and am hoping to study there. I am quite dedicated to learning it, so i'm not sure how many hours i need weekly. i would love to be able to carry a conversation in icelandic. i'm just looking for a teacher that would make it an enjoyable process.

I am a beginner interested in learning the ins and outs of the icelandic language. I have many friends who reside there, and i hope to lower the language barrier that can sometimes crop up when we speak.
I am willing to dedicate the time that it takes to learn this language. My devotion is based on the need i have to be able to converse freely with my friends.
I 'd prefer a live lesson, but internet/phon e teachings can be discussed. I'm not familiar with such ways, but perhaps after talking it over i may be interested.
