I am eager to gain a basic proficiency in mandarin chinese. I have been in Beijing for a week. I have come to China to spend time with my son and look forward to spending several months here at this time, with possibility of further return trips. At this time I have picked up just a few words. My languages are English, French and Italian. I find that often sounds in Mandarin are more closely related to sounds in French, which has helped me. I would like to have one on one lessons, for 2 hours 3 times a week, or, other if better recommended. I have a good ear for sounds and mimic quite easily but need much reinforcement to remember! so I enjoy repetition and formulating sentences that are practical for every day life. Finding words in the dictionary I find sometimes frustrating as I can't guess the sounds needed. I would also like help in learning chinese writing so I can understand simple signs etc. Thank you for your interest and reply.

I am at beginner level, as I have only studied Manadarin for a short time via books and CD's. I am learning Mandarin in order to improve my employment prospects when I return to england next year. I am looking to dedicate 4 hours per week to lessons, and need to work on all areas.
I am looking for a tutor who will assist me with pronunciation and fluency, whilst understanding that I need to learn as fast as possible and so who will ensure the lessons are demanding.
