A colleague and I would like to learn Hindi as we are currently working in India which provides us with the opportunity to learn a new language.
We are both beginners who have taught ourselves a few basics of please and thank you, counting and so on from phrase books and would like to focus on learning conversationa l Hindi.
I have also taught myself the basics of the devangari alphabet to the extent that I can make a reasonable first guess as to how to write someone's name or an english word but would be keen to learn to read it as well.
We would like to learn via private lessons in the Parel area of Mumbai in the evenings after work. We would initially like an intensive period of lessons (for example 4 days per week for two weeks) and then evaluate thereafter as to the frequency of lessons required.
The qualities I would like in a teacher are:
1. Flexibility - we are working on an intense project and may need to move lessons.
2. Pragmatism - our aim is to learn every day conversationa l hindi that is valuable on a day to day basis.
3. Structure - I would like to learn enough grammar to enable me to structure sentences, conjugate verbs and so forth correctly.
4 . Fun - Whilst we are both keen to learn the language while we have the opportunity in India, we are using our very limited free time to do so.
We also have another colleague who has slightly more advanced Hindi speaking proficiency. He would also like to join us when all three of our learning levels are on a par.
