I am interested in learing to speak (not write) Farsi. My girlfriend was born in Iran and speaks fluently and I am interested in learing to have the ability to converse with her and her family in their native language and also to keep my mind active.
I am a beginner. NOTE: Before taking any class whether online or in-person, I am wanting to know whether a Farsi teacher could recommend a book that I could review before instruction - to learn rote memory vocablulary and to get an idea where things were going. I feel that I learn better that way if I have possession of a lot of the vocabluary that can be done through memorization.
I have a full time 50+ hour job. I an open to suggestion about how much time needs to be spent per week to effectively learn.
I am interested in a teacher that would be patient, perhaps willing to teach in a group setting, and that could also teach about the Iranian culture as well.

I know a couple of phrases but am basically starting from scratch. With the right teacher, I anticipate taking weekly classes for at least the next four to five months.

I looking for a tutor for introductory Persian for summer 2012 (June-August) . I plan to do academic research in the future and will need to have some knowledge of Persian.
Depending on the rate, I am interested in 2-3 hours of lessons per week for 11 or 12 weeks.
I like to study in a relaxed but professional atmosphere and do not like courses that place the bulk of their emphasis on grammar.

I am hoping to begin learning Farsi in September or sooner because I plan to go to Iran sometime within the next few years. The culture and people are so beautiful and I really think it would be incredible to communicate with them in their native language. I am currently in my fourth semester at college and have been taking Norwegian for all four semesters and I'm ready to start learning another language as well. I'm looking for a teacher who is easy to talk to and is ready and willing to help me begin learning all aspects of Farsi. I really look forward to spending a lot of time learning Farsi and I need someone who is able to meet in person to give me lessons. I think it will be an exciting adventure!
