I have recently returned from China where I have spent 9 months living and working as an English teacher. I have basic Mandarin, enough to survive ordering some dishes, using numbers, basic greetings and so forth. I would like to build upon my existing basic knowledge of the language. My primary concerns are with speaking and listening, general conversation, using the telephone, talking about things I have done in the week or what I plan to do at the weekend, but would like to become proficient in using pinyin.
I would like to have 1-2 hours per week taught in person and I could supplement this with cd's and books that I have for a further 2 hours per week.

I really enjoy speaking Mandarin and am able to freely converse, but occasionally get toungue-tied on words or expressions. Anyway, I would like to simply converse and maybe have someone correct mistakes and give advice, but I dont want any homework or to do any drills, so I dont necessarily need an experienced language teacher. I work in finance/softw are so a familiarity in that field would be good, but not necessary. I would prefer a private lesson in-person type arrangement one time a week or so. I am an American working in Dublin and have a busy unpredicable schedule.

Basic Lessons in Mandarin Chinese required for complete beginner. I am seeking to gain some conversationa l skills as I will travel to teach English in the Shandong province, China this summer. One hour per week required at first. I am an English teacher at a secondary school in Dublin but have also experienced teaching at a summer camp in China two years ago. my 13 year old son attends a boarding school near rathfarnam
i n dublin. from september next when he enters the 2nd year he will be entitled to quit irish language classes which will free up 3 or 4 45 minute periods per week. he is fluent in english, french and spanish and although he speaks no mandarin he is keen to learn it. before speaking about this with his headmaster i wanted to find out whether it was a practical proposition and how much it would cost me to provide this frequency of private tuition at his school. its possible one or two other pupils might be interested.
