I am hoping to learn Finnish. I have never taken a course, and am an absolute beginner. I hope to study in in Finland in a couple of years, so I want to learn the basics of language before I go.

I am French but fluent in English. Working at NASA Greenbelt for a year or two, I would like to take Finnish lessons to be able to understand and start to speak as my wife is Finnish.
I have been listening Finnish at home for 4 years, and I understand some basics but I am not able to understand adults conversation neither to speak. I took few hours of lesson 2 years ago, but it was not enough to start to catch the language.
I think 20 to 30 hours would allow me to grab the basics grammar and vocabulary.
My ultimate goal is to be able to understand any type of conversation and to answer with the basic language.

I am a rank beginner....H ello, goodbye, that's about all I know. My daughter & I are planning a trip to Finland next summer and I would like to have at least a conversationa l understanding .
At this point, I am more interested in reading & speaking the language than writing it.
I can probably come up with several hours a week, at nights mostly, to work on learning Finnish.
I would like to be able to do my 'classes' remotely, as finding a sitter is problem for me, but I am open to taking a class onsite, but would only be available once a week.

I like languages a lot since I was younger and I also think it's very convenient to know different languages. I'm learning several lanaguages right now, though not all as seriously. Some languages I think are good to know because they are major languages in the world, but I also like some that are interesting and if they sound. I've been trying to learn Finnish for a while now, because I really liked how it sounded. I mostly heard at first from movies and music and I had wanted to know more about it because Finland is in the north, and I like Nordic languages. However I learned that it not related to the Scandinavian languages but to Hungarian.
I n Finnish I'm a beginner, I have tried to learn some basic vocabulary and verbs but I need practice and more grammar help. I think I need improvement in almost all areas of the language since I'm a beginner.
I would probabaly be able to work on the language for up to an hour a day or mabye an hour and a half. But I would probably be able to do most of the work on weekends. In a teacher I would like someone that obviously knows the language and is able to explain things well. The lessons should be clear and understandabl e and not too much information at once, like some books and techers do.
