Description |
I am wanting to Learn Japanese at the moment mainly because its my goal to move to Japan and live their.
I am a Beginner, and only know a few phrases mainly learned through anime/mange.
In all areas i feel i would need Improvement, especially in learning to write in Japanese.
I would like to dedicate at least 1-2 hours a week.
I am looking for a teacher who is patient, easy to understand, and willing to take the extra step in helping me learn the language to its fullest, so that i may get to a point where i can freely and naturally understand and speak the language.

The short story is I never really had a 'need to' or 'have to' reason for learning Japanese. To be honest, for me its really more along the lines of I just 'want to.' Starting from watching anime as a kid to being able to go on a summer missions trip to Japan and a whole of other things in between and after I guess I thought it was only normal to want to learn the language itself. I can't really say what my proficiency level is because all the learning I've done is through self-study through books, audio lessons, watching anime/drama and such. I did study for about 3-4 years on my own and although it was never planned, I decided to take the JLPT. Call me crazy, I know but taking the N2 off the bat probably was not a good idea, but at that time before there were 5 levels I was led to believe that the gap between the N3 and N2 was quite significant and so it would either be doing something much easier or going with the one with more of a challenge. I went with the harder one. Although I didn't pass, I think I got like a 41%...ouch, at least I kind of knew where I was at. But things really stopped after that and its been like 4 years I think ever since. I'm actually embarrassed to say this so although I could say I have a lot of personal studying hours under my belt I almost have zero when it comes to actual speaking it with somebody else. Probably because of my not so outgoing personality and coupled with the fact that I've never really met a Nihonjin or someone who could really speak Nihongo where I lived/worked. If anything I really just want to build my confidence in speaking, improving my thought flow, thinking like a Japanese, and such and maybe even be able to pass the N2 if all goes well. How much I'll be able to spend time-wise really depends on how well the lessons go or how it progresses. Again I've never had any formal classes/train ing with anyone before so I really don't know what to expect to be honest. But I'll be the first to admit that learning a new language is no walk in the park and it takes time, dedication, practice, and a whole lot of disappointmen ts to be frank. With that said wasting anyone's time including my own is the last thing on my mind but it remains to be seen whether I should go full-throttle or take it at a more steady pace. But as for the teacher, I think as long as he/she can make the lessons interesting to keep me motivated, with a good amount of variety and practicality, and having a good judgment of assessing and nurturing my growth as a student of the language, then that's probably already half the battle right there.
