I do not know a word of Japanese other than a few different kinds of sushi! I'm going to Japan in July with the JET program, and i thought it would be a good idea to learn the basics of the language before I immersed myself in it.
I would like to dedicate about 6-8 hours/week to my language lessons, but I work full-time so depending on the teacher's availability I don't know if that will be possible.
I'm looking for a teacher who is outgoint, friendly and [atient and who can teach me about the culture of Japan as well as the language. I learn visually so I like written assignments and I love to talk and listen! I'd like lessons that are intensive enough that I can have a fair grasp of the language before I leave in 3 months.

I am a beginner in learning Japanese. At the moment I am using a CD/Book combo to try and get used to the basics of the language. For a long time I've had a great interest in Japanese culture and history and would one day like to take an extended visit to Japan. With my current job I am only able to take lessons on the weekend, but every day of the week I'm always studying any book or learning source I can get my hands on and I'm confident that I can learn very quickly.

these private lessons would be for my 13 year old nephew. He is very interested in the Japanese language and culture. It would be towards credits for an elective classe at his school as a second language choice. He is a beginner. I'm not sure how often the lessons would have to be each week but that could be worked out. Can be located in New Westminster also.
