I am an American who has lived in Israel and am proficient/fl uent in Hebrew. My son, age 3, has always heard Hebrew as well as English and has always had Israeli babysitters. He understands Hebrew nearly fluently, but now, at age 3, is beginning to reject hearing Hebrew from his Ima and refuses to say words in Hebrew. I am looking for a gentle teacher to come to our home and work with him, as a 'learning playdate' -- the idea would be to help encourage his use of conversationa l Hebrew (he is too young for 'tutoring') in a playful atmosphere with either me or his father present (his father speaks passable, but slow and clumsy Hebrew). We are hoping to do one session per week. We live in New York City.

Dear friends,
I am from Taiwan, a Taiwanese woman, 28, and currently working in Bangkok. I am looking for a native Hebrew speaker teacher, two hours a week, who could match up to my irregular work schedule. I would like to learn Hebrew because I would like to know more about Judaism. I am planning on going to Israel and take courses on Hebrew language and Judaism studies from a school in the future. I am just a beginner and I have been working on my own, practicing on memorizing the vocabularies and the alphbet handwriting. I am a seminary student who will be spending June and July of 2004 in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. I would like to get a head start on learning Hebrew before I must take a class at the seminary this fall. My goal is to read the Old Testament in Hebrew, so I am looking to learn Biblical Hebrew. I have no experience with the language, only a desire to learn more about my faith. I would very much like to pay a teacher to meet with me once a week to work on Hebrew lessons, and I would be more than willing to do homework assignments in between our weekly meetings. I am trying to learn hebrew in order to speak successfully on my trip to Israel this summer. I am only interested in learning conversationa l hebrew, not writing or grammer.
