I have a good basic knowledge of the Norwegian language - mostly through self-study with the aid of books and tapes. I read local newspapers and watch televised programs, although I can only do so at length and with a satisfactory comprehension when teletext subtitles are available for a given program.
I am learning Norwegian in order to fully function as a resident in Norway; I need to become proficient so as to work using the language.
I need particular improvement in conversation (verbal and listening language skills) and writing. The wide range of Norwegian dialects that are in acceptable use makes standardized listening comprehension a particular hurdle which I would like to overcome.
Since Norwegian is not the operational language in my home (English is), I have too little exposure to the language and would like to devote 15-20 hours per week in intensive language training. I am prepared to continue the study lessons on my own time.
I am looking for a teacher who enunciates clearly and speaks with refinement. I do not have the custom of using slang expressions in my native language, and I have an ear that is sensitive to 'harshness' of tone or dialect. The aesthetics and the mechanics of the language are equally important to me.
I am also looking for a teacher who is prepared to proceed through elements of lessons at a fast pace - commensurate with my own ability.

My ability in Norwegian is low, but given time I can phathom the jist of the written, by utilising a basic level of German. I am also looking to extend my German.
I' d like to have at least one lesson in each, per week. Preferably in person. Have VW (nicknamed the viking longship), will travel. :)
I'd like to start from the very beginning in both Norwegian and German, with a tutor or tutors, that can be as flexible in progress as my ability allows. I.e., should I excell or wade slowly, in either language, my tutor could work with me. I feel I might be able to remember the German language I was so fluent in, until I was 6 years old and moved to England. Army brat ;)
I have Norwegian in my family and I'd like to make them proud of me, when I finally get to visit and perhaps move there. Fluent enough to work in a shop or bar, to start with.
I was born in Germany and would love to get back to the fluent level I attained when I was so young. Out of respect also, for the Germans in my family. Again, to a standard that would allow me to work in a shop or bar, should I move there to live.

I have zero knowledge in Norwegian. I want to learn how to speak and write Norwegian because I have my brother's family there and will be visiting them next year and plan to take the Norwegian nursing licensure exam in order for me to apply and work legally in Norway. I want to learn the language in person in Canada because I have plans of going to Calgary, Canada mid-next year afterwitch I will visit my brother in Oslo. May I know how much would it cost me? I am willing to learn 3 hours daily for 3 months . I prefer a female teacher who had previous experiences teaching the language to aspiring foreign -trained .
