Description |
My proficiency level -- I know a few phrases, but I shouldn't even mention that. I am a rank beginner.
Why you are learning your foreign language -- I am getting older, and I want to learn another language. I've always had an interest in Asian culture. Mandarin is spoken in mainland China, Malaysia, and Singapore, if I am not mistaken. My company is opening up in China. I may be able to transfer!
The areas in which you feel you need particular improvement -- that would mean I have something to improve upon!
How much time you want to dedicate to your language lessons. -- that is dependent on cost. I am also working and going to school, and I work nights.
What qualities you are looking for in your lessons or in your teacher. -- patience. I am concerned that the blurry dispositioned I have acquired may be off-putting. I am a good learning, and I'll make time to practice outside of class.

To Whom it May Concern:
H ello and Happy New Year! My name is Stephanie and I am sincerely interested in learning-- and eventually becoming fluent-- in Arabic, Pashtu, and Urdu. I am a future medical student and have great ambitions to provide basic medical care to individuals located in the Middle East, particularly in the rural areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, in order for me to provide effective treatment for the people in these areas, I must not only be able to converse with them, but I must also be highly educated in the common Islamic cultural customs and practices.
I am highly motivated and very dedicated to learning Arabic, Pashtu, and Urdu and wish to begin as soon as possible. I understand that learning a new language is very difficult, but I am willing to put in the time necessary so that I can eventually become proficient. At this current time, I am bound by 'normal' working hours but I would be more than happy to dedicate my evenings to language tutoring and/or lessons.
Thus, I am looking for an instructor who is not only fluent in one (or all) of these languages but one who also is very familiar with the traditional customs and practices of the Middle Eastern Culture. Additionally, I would like someone who has experience teaching a language and is able to cater his/her teaching lessons to the strengths and learning preferences of the student. I have no prior experience taking any of these languages but, as mentioned before, I am very eager and dedicated to learn.
Though I currently reside in San Antonio, I am expecting to move to either Washington DC or Raleigh/Durha m North Carolina in the summer. I would like to begin taking lessons now, but I am also interested in continuing these lessons once I have relocated.
I thank you for your time and assistance in this matter.

Description |
I am finishing up my 4th semester of Japanese. I have run out of classes to take, however I'm not yet finished with my Bachelor's degree. I intend to join the JET program and teach English in Japan once I have completed my degree. I'm afraid that if I don't take some kind of on-going training with this language, I will forget what I have learned! My strong point is sentence structure and vocabulary. Weak points are Kanji and some of the verb/adjectiv e conjugation. My listening/con versations skills could use some work as well. I'm not sure of a schedule as far as how many hours a week I'd like to spend on tutoring, but I'm sure that's something that can be worked out. As far as tutoring goes, I require sometimes a lot of patience as I can be forgetful at times. Japanese is not easy to learn, but it's something I'm passionate about.
