I am a health professional who for the past two years has been working with a volutary aid organisation that travels to India each year. When in India I work at a centre for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities and mental illness in the state of West Bengal. Although I have access to an interpreter while I am there, I far prefer to communicate directly with the residents, carers and staff at the centre who mostly only speak Bengali. I have learned a lot of Bengali during my previous trips, but I am very keen to learn more, especially as I plan to continue going there every year. I also speak fluent Spanish which has helped me immensely in learning Bengali, as both languages are phonetic. My preference for lessons in live, in person, however, if this is not possible in Perth I am willing to consider learning Bengali on line.
My next trip to West Bengal is in February 2006, therefore I would like to commence lessons ASAP and learn as much as I can before I depart. I will be away for 3 weeks and would want to resume my lessons upon my return. I am wanting a teacher who is a native Bengali speaker, preferably someone from India, rather than Bangladesh, because of the commonality in cultural background.

I have a basic-immedia te level of French but my conversation skills are terrible and I'd like to practice and get to a stage where I can quickly access the knowlege of grammar I've learnt over 6 years whilst actually speaking! I would like to spend about 2 hours every week in casual French conversation about anything - and perhaps some written/email ed work as part of this time to improve written skills. I would like to spend 6 months in France with friends in a couple of years and would like a better footing with the language.
