I studied Norwegian at the University of Oregon for three years in the mid-80s. I found those skills very helpful during my 3 weeks visiting relatives in Norway in 1986, but haven't really used them since. I'm planning to take a trip to Norway with my cousin and our husbands next summer, so I'd like to brush up my grammar, vocabulary and conversation skills.

I wish to learn Norwegian as that is the language of my grandparents. I plan to travel to Norway next year. I also would like to read Norwegian authors in the original language. I am a beginner student with no prior lessons. I need someone who can give occasional one-one lessons and also tutor by phone, and internet.

I moved to Norway at the end of 2005. I work for a Norwegian technology company in Lysaker where we mostly speak English, and I have few friends outside of work. Since most Norwegians also speak excellent English anyway, and I work long hours, this has made learning Norwegian difficult.
I would describe my proficiency as 'intermediate beginner'. I have a fair grasp of grammar and can communicate with difficulty on limited topics. I need particular work on pronunciation , improved vocabulary, confidence in speaking and with regular expressions used in everyday conversation. I would be prepared to devote between 2-4 hours a week in instruction.
I have a background in linguistics, so a teacher who is able to approach the language from this perspective also would be ideal. I learn quickly when driven so I would prefer a teacher who is challenging yet flexible.
