I am an absolute beginner, 47 year old male. I wish to learn Chinese for both business and personal conversation with friends in Beijing. I do not know what type of program I will need, but have not had success with CD's while driving. I am willing to dedicate several hours per week, up to an hour per day to learn/practic e. My husband is Romanian, and many of our friends are Romanian. Most importantly, his mother, uncle and grandmother are still in Romania and do not speak English.
I need to be able to communicate with his family and friends. It is also very important to my husband that I learn his language.
I need someone other than my husband to teach me. I also need to have some sort of routine and/or weekly schedule to learn the language. I expect to meet with someone at least once a week for an hour or so, and of course practice throughout the week.
My proficiency in Romanian is limited to say the least. I did however, study French for a number of years in highschool and college, so I have somewhat of a very basic understanding of the latin language which does help a little.
Th e qualities I am looking for in a teacher are simply professionali sm, and results oriented.
