My level is beginner. There are at least 3 of us who want to learn this language. We are all half pakistani and want to learn our ethnic language. We want to learn conversationa l urdu. I would like to dedicate approximately 2 hours a week with a tutor, plus my own independant learning. I would like a teacher that I can understand in english, and who is very patient.

I am a member of the Canorient Association, a cultural organization for Christian Indians & Pakistanis. I am interested in arranging conversationa l Urdu lessons for a small group (5-10 students) of youth (ages 16-25). It would be preferable if the lessons can be held in Woodbridge for approximately 1-2 hrs/wk. during the summer months (8-12 weeks) and possibly beyond into the school year if necessary. The youth in this club basically have zero knowledge of Urdu thus beginner lessons are needed. The purpose of these lessons would be to provide 1st generation Canadians with a cultural link to their heritage via language.

Beginner. I attened a pakistani mosque, but I don't understand a word said in the program speeches or lectures. I am often around many pakistani people, but I always remain quiet and on my own because I can not communicate with anyone. I have many books, cds and websites but they only help me to understand a few words here and there. Also, I lived with a pakistani women for a few months who tried to help me but she didn't have enough time or patience. When someone is speaking urdu they may mention a few words I know but I don't pick up on them because they speak so fast. I love urdu, it is a beautiful, poetic language. I would also like to teack my children the language so that they do not suffer the same language barrier as I do.
