We adopted a from China who is now in kindergarten. Our ultimate desire is for her to be fluent in her native language. She was adopted at age 1 so has no Chinese language background due to her early adoption. She did, however, begin to take Chinese classes as part of her curriculum at New Life Academy of Excellence (a Gwinnett Co. charter school). We recently transferred her to the Gwinnett School in our area. We strongly desire for her to continue to build on her beginning foundation. I am a low-intermedi ate in Mandarin Chinese. I was born in the states and grew up in a Mandarin/Engl ish speaking household. I would love to become fluent in Chinese. I want my 2 year old son to grow up speaking Chinese also. I am willing the dedicate as much time needed to accomplishing my goal of speaking fluently. I would like to learn Mandarin first and then Cantonese; profiency in Mandarin - absolute beginnger, in Cantonese - understand some. My family and I will be traveling to China in June, 2009 and I'd like to be able to converse/ask basic questions. I can dedicate as much time as it will take to learn and would prefer private lessons. My teacher would be patient and have a sense of humor, and, if the lessons take place in my home, like dogs.
