I'm very proficient in German, having taken an advanced language course in Germany, and I am a German translator. I want to add Japanese to my resume as I find that knowing an Oriental language will be very advantageous for me in my chosen profession.
I have an aptitude towards languages so I think that learning the grammar would be diffcult; though I can't say the same about the script as it is totally foreign to me.
The time that I'll be able to dedicate to Japanese shall be determined once I talk to the instructor, as it will depend upon my deadlines.
My lessons should be both theoretical and practicalm with particular emphasis on the practical. I would like the theory to be comprehensive in detailing all the grammatical rules and exceptions. Also, in this case, I would like a lot of practice with the script (and its possible variations). I would also like to be informed and/or instructed in any important dialects, besides standard Japanese. My teacher should be fluent in the language: be it spoken or written formally or informally, and should be able to explain the people and traditions of Japan lucidly and comprehensive ly as a language can only be competently learned after understanding the culture and its people's thought processes.
