I am a college instructor interested in learning Chinese (Mandarin) so that I can spend my next sabbatical in China. I have studied at the college level for one year, and now I would like to continue my study with individual instruction. I especially need help with pronounciatio n and listening comprehension . I can spend one or more hours each week in actual instruction and additional time in self-study. I would like an instructor who is patient but who will push me to do well. I have no experience of Mandarin but have been thinking about learning it for some time.
I work in financial services and although I have no need of Mandarin at the moment I would like to be in a position to utilise it in the future.
The fact that it is the most spoken language in the world appeals to me as well.
Iw ould like to spend- hours per week on study.
I would like patience from my teacher as the nature of the language may take some getting used to.
