I'm a beginning student of Arabic and Farsi. I've taken an elementary Arabic course, but everything else I've learned has been on my own. I'm looking for conversationa l practise and help with grammar and vocab questions. I'd like to devote up to two hours a week to learning the language. I have been studying Arabic for 9 months and am at the intermediate level. I can speak simple sentences using 3 verb tenses about simple subjects. I would like to improve my speaking and writing in Modern Standard Arabic (not a dialect). I would like to have lessons twice a week with a teacher. I've never studied Arabic, but I would like to start learning this summer. I catch on to languages quickly, and I used to be proficient in french. I have an undergraduate degree in Anthropology and I'll be starting graduate school for an MBA this year, but I will also be applying to graduate school for Anthropology once my MBA is done. Since my anthropologic al interests lie in Africa, I feel I need to be proficient in both French and Standard Middle Eastern Arabic when I apply. I'd like to have a tutor/teacher at least twice a week for an hour (more if the teacher feels it is better or necessary) for the summer and possibly as often or less often during my school year. I'd prefer lessons in person combined with homework (I LOVE homework, particularly in languages), with a strong focus on all the language methods (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) since my use of Arabic will be both academic and practical. I tend to catch on to writing forms more quickly and easily than listening, with speaking somewhere between the two.

I can read and write Arabic at perhaps a kindergarten level. I can carry a conversation in Arabic with a Tunisian dialect. I want to learn more Arabic as I am a US Marine Officer and for personal reasons. I need particular work in vocabulary, conjugation, reading, and writing. I am extremely serious to continue my education, but will be limited only by my work schedule and my teacher's avaiability. I am looking for intense, serious, progressive instruction that will lead to: 1- being able to freely carry on in depth discussions and read in depth literature in Modern Standar and Classical rabic 2-to be able to pass the DLI Arabic test.
