Description |
Dear Portuguese teacher,
I would like to study Portuguese for the next few months here, in Johannesburg, where I currently live.
I am Mexican, so my native language is Spanish. I have several Brazilian friends from whom I picked up some Portuguese a few years ago. I then travelled 3 weeks through Brazil with them, and that's where I've picked up the Portuguese I know.
I would like to take an intensive course in Portuguese, during the day on weekdays. If possible, I'd like to take around 2-3 hours of class each day, Monday-Friday . I am also open to taking 2-3 hours of class 2-3 days a week, though. I'd like the classes to end by 6 pm on a given day, at the latest.
I feel I most need to work on my grammar. I've never taken Portuguese lessons, so I don't have any proper training in the language. What I know, I've mainly taken from Spanish and have added a Porgtuguese accent to it in the hope that I'm actually speaking Portuguese.
Ideally, I'd like to take classes with a group of people, as I am also interested in meeting people in Johannesburg. However, I understand that due to me wanting to take Portuguese intensively, in Johannesburg, and that my level is not very clear, this might be complicated.
I've recently graduated from an undergraduate degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics (making artificial legs & arms & making braces, splints, etc). During a 6-month internship here in Johannesburg, I unexpectedly got to use my Portuguese with Mozambican and Angolan patients. Since I am not South African but am looking for a way to work here in my field, I need an 'edge' which makes me employable in a job South Africans can't do. I believe my Portuguese can be one of these reasons. And for this purpose, I'd like to learn to speak & write Portuguese properly. And if possible, after my course(s), I'd like to take a standard Portuguese test (such as from the Instituto Camões) which certifies my proficiency level in the language.
I'm interested in learning not only Portuguese from Portugal, but also the Portuguese spoken in Brazil, Angola & Mozambique.
I'd really appreciate a prompt reply!
Reg ards!
