My proficiency level is beginer. I would like to speak conversatioon al Cantonese. If this would be in person instruction, I would think about an hour a week. If this was on line or via telephone I would expect more. I am looking for a teacher who is fluent in both english and cantonese. I have a chinese friend who has helped me learn some phrases but her english, although very good is not fluent. i am thinking of a compensation level of $15/hr/wk. I chose this level because I know for example, the current rate for guitar lessons is that amount. i have read some things about Chinese history. I am interested in the culture and as i said I have a friend I could relate to on a new level. If the what I am looking for is not available through this site, can you make any suggestions?

Hi, I'm 30 years old, live in sacramento and was born in Vietnam but cannot speak the language. I vaguely understand bits and pieces. I have tried taking a course at Sac City College but was embarrassed because the teacher kept making funny of me openly. My parents tried to teach me but they too make fun of me. The vietnamese church won't accept adults in their classes and I can't tell if I am pronouncing the words right on the CDs I purchased online. I'm looking for someone who has patience and won't make fun of the fact that I have a hard time pronouncing words even though it is my native language.
