I am travelling to Europe this summer - I have never taken any French, but did have Spanish lessons in school as a child. I am an antique dealer and interior designer, and would like to eventually establish part of my business in France. Why do I want to learn Chinese and Japanese?
Studying other languages and learning about world culture is a huge passion of mine. Last summer, I lived in Japan for about 2 months (on a foreign exchange program). I was lucky enough to have the experience of everyday life and learning with a family in Japan.
This year, I will be going on another full year exchange program to Taiwan. I am very excited to learn more about Chinese culture, with a Chinese family, and I am interested in learning how to speak Mandarin (starting now, before I get there...)
My proficiency level:
I am a beginner in Mandarin Chinese. I know I still have lots of work to do!
My foreign language experience:
I have been studying Japanese for just about two years.
I had studied Spanish in school for over five years.
How much time do I want to dedicate:
A lot! A little on my own everyday, and at least once or twice a week (which would be awesome) with a teacher. I really want to delve into Mandarin as much as I can before I will be travelling there this fall...
Wh at qualities am I looking for:
A person who really would like to teach Mandarin! (haha) A person who would share some fun conversationa l skills, and useful tips, along with the 'chapter'. A person who likes to be versatile with learning, and have fun! :)

Hello,
Our family is seeking a Mandarin speaking au pair/nanny, preferably to live in our home in Pittsburgh beginning September 2007. Ideal candidate will be a student who would provide approximately 20 hours of weekly care for our children, primarily in the early afternoon, teach our two young children Mandarin and enjoy exchanging information about our cultures with our family. Our daughter will be in school full time in first grade and our son will attend Pre-K Monday through Friday until 12 noon. I have taken italian lanquage courses at CCAC over the years and have a basic understanding of Italian. About 7 years ago, I took private lessons with a tutor who coached me 2 evenings a week for about 4 months. I was able to achieve good communication skills in spanish while traveling on business in South America. I am willing to pay a fair fee for your time and coaching.
I am looking to achieve converstaiona l language skills in Italian to prepare for a vacation to Italy in August 2007, and I have a personal interest in learning the lanquage as I am a 3rd generation italian american. I may want to continue the coaching sessions after ny trip. I would like to be able to smoothly and effectively have discussions in italian--most ly in the present and immediately past tense.
I am willing to meet during the day or early evenings or Saturday mornings to learn. I work in downtown Pittsburgh and live in Shadyside. I will study the materials presented and will take the our time together seriously. I am not interested in learning dialects or the more fromal business communication s styles. I want to be able to handle myself very well while in Italy--sights eeing, airports, hotels, directions, restaurants, etc.
