I want to learn to speak Thai as i am married to a Thai and in about 5 years time i intend to spend a significant part of the year living in Thailand where we have a house,
I also believe that if i could speak the language i would have be able to communicate with my wife's family which is presently very difficult as most of them speak no English at all.
I haven't really been able to pick up much Thai language as i have a busy life and need to push myself, i do know quite a lot of words but struggle to understand language spoken at normal speed.
I can read basic Thai words and simple sentances particularly phrase book stuff

I have absolutely no background or prior learning experience in the Thai language. I will be visiting family in Thailand in July of 2009 for app. one month. My sister in law is Thai, and my brother speaks Thai - I would like to be able to understand and converse at a tourist level in Thai before I travel. I would like to surprise my family that I have made an effort to learn a bit of the language.
