I am learning Amharic because I have visited Ethiopia and plan to do so again in the future. I am a beginner, but have taught myself (through the internet and books) how to read and write Fidel on a basic level. I need particular improvement with grammar, conversation, reading. I have an eight-year-ol d grandson who is deaf. He has a cochlear implant, but he is one of the few it does not work for. He is in public school, in second grade. I have learned some basic sign language, but I need more. In fact, our family (myself; my husband; his father, my son; perhaps my daughter; and maybe a couple of friends.
I can communicate with him fairly well. However, I am trying to do homework with him and help him learn to read better. So I need communication skills and ASL grammar basics because his teacher said they teach new concepts using ASL and then English order when reading and doing his school work. He frequently uses ASL when trying to tell me something and I am very slow understanding . He sometimes gets frustrated with me.

I hope you can help us. I have had a very difficult time finding support for teaching sign language to extended families. Thank you in advance for any information you can give me.
