I do not know any Mandarin or Japanese at this time. I would like to learn Mandarin or Japanese so that I may teach English as a second language overseas. My goal is to live and work in an Asian country.
I also have two friends of mine, both from Hong Kong, who need to learn English. They are native Cantonese speaking, and any information you could give to help them learn English would be appreciated. I am trying to find them a tutor also.

I am at a high-intermed iate level of reading, writing, and speaking and have just moved to San Diego from Beijing, where I was working. I also hold a Masters in Chinese Political Economy from Cambridge.
I would like an energetic, highly organized teacher. The teacher must be punctual.
I would like to do as much as 10 hours per week of conversationa l work, depending on the teachers rate. I will most likely be moving back to China next year so it is very important to me that I maintain and build upon my language skills.

I have just begun learning Mandarin, so I don't have the best concept of the language yet. I have no experience with the Chinese characters and I have a feeling I will need to do a lot of work with that. I took a class in Mandarin Chinese, but it only met once a week and I feel like I need a more personal learning method. I'm only 17, but I am determined to learn mandarin because my friend and I both want to move to either China or Taiwan in the future. I would love to teach Mandarin in a Chinese school. I think it would be best if my teacher had a bit of patience because sometime I have trouble with completely grasping the concepts at hand. My friend would also love to take lessons with me. I am determined to become fluent in Mandarin, so I am willing to dedicate a good amount of time. I hope to hear from some one who is ready to teach me! Thanks!

I am a beginner and I want to learn Mandarin. We have Rosetta stone Mandarin levels 1 and 2 and I have been using this but it doesn't compare with learning from a person. I am also not very far along in this study. My husband and I are going to be living in an area where Mandarin is dominate within the next two years and I want to be extremely efficient before we arrive. Well, at least survival: locations, able to give and recieve directions, feelings, weather, family and culture domains, food, shopping, etc. I would like to learn all areas of the language but conversation and reading would be good to focus on first. I will have a lot of time to devote to learning in the Fall and Spring of this year as I will be mainly staying at home raising our one child. I am able to start at the begining of September 2007. I am looking for a teacher who incorporates songs and other non-standard methods of teaching. I can learn in more formal settings so some formality and standard teaching methods would be okay for most of the time but I need change and variety when learning as well. I would prefer to work with a woman who is sensitive to the demands of being a parent and wife.
