I would like to learn german because I have a lot of friends that are german that come here to the U.S alot. I also go to germany at least once a year, would like to go to school there eventually. I would have rank my skill level in the language at a 2 on a scale of one to ten. I need help with conversation, and grammar. I would like two work on my language at least 2 to 3 times per week. I am looking for a teacher who is able to show me the best way to learn, and learn efficently.

I suppose the best way to answer the question, why are you learning a foreign language?, to communicate. To answer more practically, I am studying linguistics and, obviously, having in depth knowledge of any language is beyond helpful. Currently, in Russian, my level of proficiency is beginner, though I am a fast learner. I learn grammar and conjugation the fastest, while I conversation and vocabulary are always needing improvement. I love learning languages so I can spend up to four hours a day studying. Granted, this is not an everyday practice, but still. I look for teachers who have a good grasp of grammar, rigorous lessons and exercises, and of course, easily makes the material accessible.

I am interested in advancing my abilities in Spanish and German because I love languages and love to learn and speak them. My wife is from Mexico so we speak almost exclusively Spanish to each other and I'm always interested in learning more, become more comfortable/f luent in the language, and getting some more directed instruction on some of the technical aspects of the language. I'm interested in German because it's a fun language that I like and an eager to learn more.
In spanish, I test at the upper-interme diate B2 level using the European Standard (whatever that means). I can talk about almost anything but my vocabulary and the nuances of the language need work in my opinion. German I am a very new beginner with maybe 50 words under my belt. :)
I am interested in dedicating several hours per week to learn the language(s).
I'm looking for someone who will push me, direct me and teach me how to actually speak the language well - I'm not interested in being able to use simple words and talk like a robot. I'm interested in learning sayings, ways of talking, thinking in the language, and NOT translating.

I wish to learn German because my wife is native German and I will be meeting my in laws this summer. They do not speak English. In addition, my wife will be taking a subcontractin g position with her previous employer in German for 3-6 months (July to December 2010) near Duisburg, ironically doing translation work. I will likely be with her during the entire stay. It is also possible that we might start a division of an internet business in Germany as well.
I am a beginner. I will need all phases of German literacy. I am just getting started with a new employer and my responsibilit ies may take me to other parts of California. I need to know how much time I should dedicate to learning German. I have several German friends who can support my learning effort.
Th e qualities I am looking for in my teacher are: patience, method, structure, and versatility. I struggle with repetition on my own, but can handle the challenges with personal attention, whether in one on one or small groups.

With Regards to German:
I have taken two courses in German.
I would like to focus on reading and writing.
The amount of hours a week depends upon the price of the courses. I am open to spending 2-5 hours a week in person.

T echnically, my native language is Spanish, however I have forgotten much over the years through a lack of use.
