Description |
I've been flying back and forth to the Philippines from Hawaii since March 2005. Right now is my longest stay reaching 5 months this month. I plan to stay here until early February next year. I decided that I want to get more fluent in Tagalog for many reason. My wife's native tongue is Tagalog and I want to better communicate with all of her family. I also want to teach my child Tagalog as she grows older. Most of my dad's family speak Ilocano being that they are from Pangasinan. They understand and can speak Tagalog also making it a more practical language to learn first. I also have applications pending a job interview by January next year. Since I will be based in Hawaii, and many Filipino's reside there as will as immigrate, I think it would compliment my resume and qualification s for the jobs that I applied for. I also intend to take up Law by the end of Summer of next year. I have intentions to get into Immigration Law and Civil Rights. I would like to serve the Filipino people as an attorney that is also able to speak their national language. I have been able to pick up basic words and learn the different tenses of some words through my stay here. I also have been listening to a lot of classic Tagalog music getting translations from my wife and her family. I also bought a Tagalog-Engli sh Bible that I sometimes read where the translations are next to each other. I also have a few Tagalog movies with subtitles. I can hold a simple basic conversation in some cases, but I know I need to learn more vocabulary, master grammatical placement, understand the different tenses, and learning how to properly pronounce some words. I recently finished my Master's degree online this September. I am pretty much free most of the time with exception for the days that I accompany my wife for Immigration/V isa materials, doctor appointments for my wife or daughter, and grocery shopping for the family. I am willing to put as much free time as possible in order for me to gain as much knowledge before I fly back to Hawaii with my family. Since we are going to the province mid-December, I plan to start after the Holidays when things slow down. I am looking for a teacher who enjoys what he/she does and has a talent in relating to the specific needs of his/her students. Being positive, patient, and energetic are important qualities for any teacher that I would expect from a language teacher.
