I am a beginner language student. I plan to live and work with youth in Nairobi, Kenya in September 2009 at a high school. I can devote one hour per week on Saturday until June to learn Swahili. I can devote more time between July and August 2009. I need conversationa l skills for educators, shopping, traveling, and church. My skill level is low-intermedi ate (maybe high-beginner ). I've memorized a moderate number of words, but my speaking and listening is poor. I'd like to continue to learn new words while focusing on my speaking and listening skills.
I' m particularly interested in Southern dialect, though a central dialect might be okay. I really want someone who's going to drill me in pronunciation and usage, someone exacting and tough.
My preference is for someone in or around Philadelphia that I could meet with in person. However, I would conduct lessons via video chat with the right tutor (motivated, experienced, etc).
Until May (2008) I'm looking to meet once a week to work primarily on pronunciation and speaking practice based on my coursework. After school's out I'd like to work up a more intensive lesson plan and/or meet for a longer period.
