I am a Canadian citizen who has studied French at all levels of my public schooling. I have worked and lived in China for 4 years. But I find that I am losing my capacity in French very rapidly. When I left Canada my proficiency level was probably at the intermediate level. I do not want to lose any more of my ability to speak French while I am working and teaching overseas.
I need to learn and practise in all areas of French -whether reading, writing, speaking and listening. But, I need particular help with my listening skills. I miss not having the opportunity to speak French and look forward to finding a group or organization of French speakers with whom I could practise my second language.
I would be committed to meeting 1 to 2 times per week, at least, for my French language lessons. I do not want to lose my precious language resource from my schooling days and one which I would definitely use, in an employment capacity, when I return to Canada in several years.
I would look for an insightful, understanding , compassionate , gifted, and skillful teacher to deliver my language lessons - someone to whom I could pay respect for his/her abilities. EB

Hello, my family has very recently moved to China to follow my husbands work. We are based in Tianjin, we will live in China for a minimum of 3 years. My son attends a local international school and will have classes in the Chinese Mandarin language.
I am at the beginner (very beginner) level and I have chosen to learn the Chinese Mandarin language for several reasons
(i) Conversationa l Chinese Mandarin is necessary to me to function in the local community (shopping, working etc).
(ii) It will help me support my son learning the language (iii) When I have settled into Tianjin I would like to look for part-time work and will therefore need the Chinese Mandarin language.
In a teacher I would like someone who has a sense of humour in their learning however is structured and can produce a planned programme which will be followed.

I will stay in Chongqing until the 1 October 2006. I want to use the time to improve my mandarin, therefore I am looking for somebody to teach me two times per week. Could you please ask your students who study English if one of them wants to teach me? I will pay 30-40 RMB per hour. The requirements for the job are:
1. The person must speak English very well
2. The person must be familiar with pinyin (I only learn pinyin, NO Chinese characters)
3. The person must be able to come to my hotel to teach me here
