My name is Andrew. I am currently seeking training in either Cantonese or Korean. My interest in these languages is personal interest and hopefully will be applied in my work environment eventually. I have zero knowledge of Korean and very (and i mean VERY) basic Cantonese. At present I work full time with shifts that change sometimes. I'm looking to dedicate 1 to 2 hours a day to learning. I have some trouble sitting down and learning anything on my own most of the time. As such I need someone present or in contact with me to keep me focused.

I am Chinese Canadian, I speak fluent English and Mandarin.
I would like to learn Korean, I love the food, the culture, the language, and I want to go oversea to teach English there within the next, possibly, 2 years.
I am at beginner level for Korean, but I would like someone to teach me from the very beginning.

I am interested in learning Korean for a few reasons. First of all, I am new to the city of Vancouver, I come from Saskatoon where there is not a lot of other cultures to interact with. When I moved here, I decided it was time to try to learn another language to expand my horizons. I took beginner spanish and I can now speak a small amount of spanish. However, I decided that Korean would be a more useful language to learn living in Vancouver. I also would like to have a career in human rights and international relations law. Therefore the more languages that I know the better off that I will be. Lastly, my boyfriend is korean. I am very interested in his culture and I am very enthusiastic about learning more about it. His family primarily speaks korean and therefore it would create a way to better communicate with them.
I have not had a lot of exposure to the language, aside from the fact that my boyfriend speaks korean on a daily basis. He has taught me a very small amount, but I figured I needed professional help to fully understand the language.
I am most concerned with basic conversation. I want to be able to understand and speak basic korean with the people around me. I would like to be able to write it, and to understand the grammar, but I feel that conversation is most important for me.
I will dedicate as much time as needed to learning korean. However I am a student during the fall and spring semesters, and I work full time during the summer, but I feel that I still have enough free time to fully immerse myself in this.
I am looking for a teacher that is understanding , I know learning a new language can be frustrating, and even more frustrating for someone who is teaching it. I also want someone who will push me as much as needed, but realize that I do have other priorities in my life as well.
