I am a beginner. I do not speak or curenntly understand
amharic. I wish to learn the language, because I spoke it as a child, but have forgotten it. It was the language of my father's side of the family. I also have many friends who are Ethiopian and would like to be able to join in or understand the conversations when we get together without having to wait for someone to explain.
I am a quick learner of language and am willing to spend up to seven hours a week in study and more to practice correct enunciation and vocal intonations as necessary. I am also prepared to spend 30min. per day on reading and writing.
I am looking for a teacher who is patient and enthusiastic about and dedicated to teaching and sharing his/her language and culture with anyone interested in learning.

I would like to learn conversation, grammar and just about anything. All I know about Amharic is the name. I am a begginer well actually a prebegginer. I don't know anything about the language. I am planning on going over to Ethiopia to teach children English. I would like to know how to speak a little so I'm not completly helpless over there. I am looking for anyone who can help me to learn the basics of Amharic and a few important phrases (where is the bathroom). I can devote as much time as needs be to learning the language. I only have a short amount of time before I leave for Ethiopia. I am leaving in January '05 so it is imparative that I start soon!
