Probably advanced beginner in Portuguese. I have a Brazilian daughter-in-l aw and am going to her home in Northeastern Brazil. Have been studying at Adult Ed program for about 4 terms, but there are no more advanced classes. Would really like to find a person from the North as the accent is quite differern from the South.
Language background: speak French fluently, studied Spanish in college, Latin in high school, and Italian for the last five years - interspersed with Portuguese. Often don't know whether the word coming out is Italian or Portuguese - levels about the same.
Need confidence in speaking - vocabulary, and need to be forced to remember endings for the tenses. Grammar is not so much a problem, as it mirrors the other languages I know.

My son would like to learn another language and after some discussion, he is interested in the Mandarin language. He is 11 years old and has taken Sanish for 5 years at school.
I think he will learn best in a private lesson, starting with once a week and perhaps increasing to two times per week over the summer.

I am an advanced beginner. I have many opportunities to practice speaking Spanish. I work at a luxury hotel and would like to converse with our guests and co-workers who speak spanish.
