My proficiency is intermediate comprehensive ly but less than intermediate in my speaking ability. I've had 1 yr (2003-04) of Arabic at UC Santa Cruz and spent 10 months in Cairo (2004-05).
I am learning Arabic because it seems a necessary language to know, I'd like to be a translator of Arabic and it is a beautiful language.
I need the most help with grammar, grammar, grammar. I'm also somewhat slow in my reading out loud of the language; meshing the sounds together so they sound clear, not all jumbled and misunderstood . I'd like to have more conversation confidence.
I will dedicate as much time as I can with my work schedule now and when my school starts in September. A few hours a day, week; it's negotiable.
I like my teachers to challenge me but also be light-hearted about the lessons if that makes sense. Patience and explaining things clearly are both good.

Ten years ago, I had a vocabulary of 300 Shqipe words and some simple grammar, but I have forgotten it. I am a law professor interested in the law of Albania, past and present. I want to be able to speak and read Albanian at a level allowing me to converse about law, interpret legislation, and write contracts, among other things. If I achieve this level of proficiency, I can teach law in Albania. During the next six months, I can set aside time for two or three lessons per week and the preparation in between, but I prefer a shorter and more intensive course of study.
