I am 24, and have never before studied Mandarin Chinese (MC). However, I want to begin studying it relatively soon under the guidance of a private tutor, who I would prefer to meet with at least three times per week until late December. I want to learn MC, moreover, because of its importance in the fields of international law and international relations. Before November, I plan on completing and submitting applications to various schools that will allow me to pursue degrees in both. I also plan on studying MC in Beijing from January 2007 until July 2007, returning just before school starts, but would like to be at least somewhat familiar with it prior to leaving; hence, my search and desire for a private tutor.

I am Chinese (not a native speaker or Chinese citizen) and I understand the basics (tone, writing, sentence structure). However, I've not used the language in several years and currently am very rusty.
My goal is to be able to hold everyday conversations if i were to travel to China, and to be able to conduct business in Chinese (including understanding basic negotiating skills for business China).
My key weaknesses include vocabulary, conversationa l skills & business usage. I can write & use a dictionary.
I intend to attain a certain proficiency, so i'm not sure how much time i'll need--depends on the teaching effectiveness & methods. But along those lines, I'd prefer a 'course fee' as opposed to an hourly rate, because that would help ensure clear teaching goals that hopefully will be easier to agreea upon; & ensure motivation on both sides.
Ide ally, my tutor will be a native Chinese speaker with some experience doing business in China.
