I would like to learn Farsi out pure curiosity and for my own personal enjoyment. It is possible that one day it could be of professional value to me, but for now I would just like to begin exploring the language. I currently have absolutely no knowledge of Persian, and as I am a full-time student, can only dedicate a minimal amount of time to studying each week. I wish to learn Punjabi because it is the first language of my wife and the only language of several of her family members.
M aintaining these relationships is important to me and being able to teach my children about their heritage would be facilitated by having a fully bilingual household.
I have been reading the Punjabi book in the 'Teach Yourself' series but consider myself a beginner.
Grammar and pronunciation are particular problems, but I do have exercises from the text series, so if time constraints become an issue I would prefer to focus on pronunciation and conversation, since they are more urgent requirements for social usage.
I am willing to dedicate as many as 3-4 hours per week to language study.
In a teacher, I would say tolerance and patience would be the most important qualities I would look for. My situation is not unique, but still fairly uncommon and I would greatly appreciate somebody who is more interested in satisfying a thirst for learning rather than judging my motivations.
