I am learning Mandarin out of interest for Chinese culture. My proficiency level is medium beginner.
I would like to improve in writing skills (characters), speaking (pronunciatio n and conversation) and increase my vocabulary. I'm a recent graduate from college with a bachelor's degree in English Literature and Secondary Education. I am a certified English teacher in Chicago, USA.
I am currently teaching English as a Second Language at Jiangsu Institute of Economics and Trade Technology. The school is located in Jiangning, but I live near the city center at ShiMenKan. I want to learn Chinese because I plan to teach English in China for at least a couple more years and I hate forcing people to speak a different language in their own country.
My level of Chinese is probably very similar to that of a 4 year old Chinese baby....maybe worse. So I think saying I am a beginner is far too kind.
I would love to get conversationa l first, but with hopes that some day I can read and write, too!
I work 24 hours a week at my school. I'm free Monday - Wednesday evenings after 6:00pm. And I am completely free on the weekends with the exception of weekend travels/trips . I really would love to meet twice a week, but this may be too ambitious of me.
I am looking for a teacher who is fun and patient. I will work hard, but I need to be able to chat freely with my teacher. I am very outgoing and would love to have a teacher who isn't turned off by my open personality.
