I am a complete Mandarin beginner, although I can read some of the characters because I can read Japanese. I have always wanted to learn Chinese just for the love of the language, and each area needs improvement: grammar, pronunciation , reading, writing. The language lessons can be an hour or an hour and a half. I am hoping that my teacher can not only help me in person but can also tell me good sources--such as cassette tapes--I can use to practice on my own. I live in the DC area but will only be here for about five more weeks. However, I will certainly work hard those five weeks and then continue after I move. Thanks very much.

I studied Mandarin for 4 years in college, and lived in Shenzhen for a year. I just came back to the States to work and want to keep up my Mandarin proficiency!
I would prefer a teacher who wants to engage in cultural activities during our lessons. I am on a budget, so the lower the cost the better. I would like to spend 2-4 hours a week on lessons, focusing on conversation, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation .
