My proficiency level is beginner. I have not been to a formal chinese, mandarin course, and have only had an introduction to learning the language through the Rosetta Stone PC based program. I am learning this language for career advancement and personal interest. I will need improvement in all areas but am most interested in conversation and reading. I am wiling to dedicate as much time as is necessary in order to become proficient enough to hold a conversation in Chinese. I am looking for an instructor whose lessons are well structured, patient, and very competent so that I can attain a high level of competence.

I am now self-studying Mandarin using the Pimsleur CD's. I have completed about 50 hours of instruction so far. Now I would like to study with a tutor as well in order to learn more about grammar, common usage, and conversationa l skills.
I am studying Mandarin in order to be able to have some basic communicating skills when I return to China later this year as a tourist.
Besides Chinese, I have also studied Vietnamese (I can read, write, and engage in conversation, although I am not yet fluent), French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
I work in Houston from Monday to Friday, and return to my home in Austin on the weekends. I would like to study either once or twice during the week, for one to two hours per session. I am usually only available in the evening; however, daytime meeting may be possible. I am looking for in person private tutoring, at some mutually-agre eable meeting spot.
