Description |
My name is Dustin Rogers and I am interested in learning Irish Gaelic. I speak fluent english and I am a musician at heart. I am enrolled for the Art Institute of Vancouver's Professional Recording arts program in July of 2008, and one might say that I intend on encorporating the Gaelic language into my music and possibly into my music business in the near future. My motives for wanting to learn Gaelic stem from a rather personal level. My heritage is Irish and I intend on travelling to Ireland in the near future. I also plan on possibly contacting distant relatives living in Ireland in hopes of 'digging up my past' and understanding the Gaelic language may be key for doing this. Otherwise, an understanding of this ancient language will further my interest in ancient Celtic culture. I hope to dedicate one day per week to studies via the internet (e-mail, websites, instant messaging, etc.), or over the phone. I would like a teacher that is well versed in the language and that is able to tutor via my methods of communication . Also, I would find it important that my teacher enjoys instructing me, and is able to have fun while doing so.
Regard s, Dustin Rogers.

Description |
I have always been interested in learning to speak and read gaelic. It only recently occured to me to try to find an actual person to teach me.
I would prefer in-person lessons, but will settle for online if it is a) much cheaper, or b) impossible to set up times for in-person lessons.
D efinitely a rank amateur. I have a very hard time following along with text while listening to spoken gaelic at this point, as many of the grammatical rules, consonants, and vowels are fairly alien to me...however I do have a knack for languages.
I need somebody to take me from knowing nothing to at least reading with some proficiency and I'd like to be able to carry on a simple conversation.
A couple of hours per week of actual instruction with homework would be ideal

Description |
I am a complete beginner in every sense of the word.
I want to learn Gaelic because it's the language of my ancestors. My father's family was from Scotland and my mother's Ireland. I'm not sure how similar the two are, I do know from past conversations with people that there are distinct differences, but would like to learn some of both.
I would like to learn conversationa l Gaelic so that when my brother and I rent a house this coming summer I would be able to speak some Gaelic. We're going to rent this house in Scotland, so that's my first preference, Scottish Gaelic, but we're also travelling to Ireland. (I was there last year and know that Irish is now a working language there and would like to learn it as well.)
I could dedicate at least an hour a day or some days more to learning the language.
I am looking for a teacher with a good foundation in teaching conversationa l Gaelic, as opposed to one teaching textbook methods of grammatical structure, etc.
