My wife and two children, aged twelve and five are all hoping to learn Mandarin.
My wife have lived in both Beijing and Hong Kong for a number of years and have a little exposure but not the children.
If possible, we are looking for 2 separate lessons a week, one for the younger child and another for the older child with my wife.

I am currently looking for some private mandarin classes as I am needing to learn it for work.
I am a fluent Cantonese speaker, with an understanding in Traditional Chinese characters as in 2005, I obtained my A* GCSE, and also a C-grade A-level. In 2008, I also studied Mandarin for one year, where the class was specifically designed for Cantonese speakers, however, I did not find these lessons in particularly useful as the class size was too big.
Withi n my work, I need to regularly liaise with people in China, over the phone currently. So conversationa l work is vital, as well as learning Business terms and phrases, however, when I am able to speak a bit more, I will be going on business to Beijing, where the majority of our business is held, therefore it is crucial that I start learning Mandarin ASAP!
At the moment, I would say that my knowledge of Simplified characters is quite limited. I am able to recognise some words, however my pin yin is very poor, as well as my grammar. My speaking is pretty non-existent, in that I don’t think I would be able to hold any form of conversation, or if I can, then it would be very poorly. I have been trying to watch more Chinese TV, so recently, I have been watching programmes on the internet to try and improve my listening skills, of which, I can start to understand a bit more, though I can never really understand whole sentences, but can catch the odd word here and there, mainly because I recognise it from Cantonese.
I am currently living in Manchester city centre, and ideally I am looking for 2 lessons a week, either in Manchester or alternatively at my office in Knutsford, Cheshire. However, if you are Manchester based, then this would probably be more convenient. My availability is in the evening weekday afternoons/ev enings. My work schedule changes, so I am pretty flexible with time, as long as it is after 4.30pm.
An yways, I hope to hear from you soon, as I am looking to start lessons within the next week or two.
