I am moving to Iraklio for 2 months from July 30 - September 30. I have started Pimsleur audio for Greek but feel like having a tutor would be very beneficial for me and help me to learn faster and have better luck with my accent. I currently only speak English and very basic Spanish.

Why you are learning your foreign language (e.g., career advancement, etc.)- I reconnected with my father who is Greek (and currently lives in Athens) about 10 years ago. Over the last few years I have been spending more and more time in Greece and will eventually have to manage business matters on behalf of my family. I have learned slowly through some sporadic immersion. I also have been utilizing the Rosetta Stone system but have only completed a very basic level.
Your proficiency level (e.g., beginner, etc.)- I have a basic understanding of many words and phrases but still consider myself a beginner.
The areas in which you feel you need particular improvement (e.g., grammar, conversation, etc.), if any. - grammar, pronunciation , conversation
How much time you want to dedicate to your language lessons. - 3-5 hours per week.
What qualities you are looking for in your lessons or in your teacher. - I would like a teacher who will provide structure and allow me to build on my current knowledge. My goal is to become conversationa l within one year.

I speak 5 other languages and I was a language teacher myself...so son't worry, even if I'm old I learn fast.
I studied ancient Greek in Italy in high school for 5 years (wow, that was more than 20 yrs ago), which gave me the feeling of Greek grammar (verb tenses, roots of the words) but I forgot it all because it was an old teching methodology (learn lists of vocabulary or translate word by word with a dictionary).
I took a week of modern Greek in Athens some years ago which brought me to level A2, and now I am stuck there because unless someone helps me build vocabulary progressively , I can't make it: I hate studying languages by myself, I get bored.
My parents in law live in Greece but they speak French to me, which is their family language, so no way to progress with them. The rest of the friends and family there speak and joke waaaaay too fast for me to jump in their conversations .
So I sit there, grab what they talk about, and...watch!
My husband speaks Greek fluently because he lived in Greece for 2 years when he was a boy, and of course because of all his cousins and family there.
I would like to bring up my conversationa l level because we have a 5 yr old daughter who's bilingual French/Italia n but she gets stressed in Greece, constantly referring to me for safety in one of her confort languages. I think if I speak Greek over there with the rest of the people, she'll find it more normal to pick it up. (and maybe I'll also persuade my in laws to use Greek when she's around!)
I need to build vocabulary by recycling it in conversation. With that, I will be able to write as well. My passive understanding is of course far better than the few words I can say. I can follow an official speech better than people chatting, for instance I can understand a speech of a guy at the parliament, but not people discussing in the street.
I have the book epikoinonizet e ellinika 1 and 2 we can use.
I unfortunately have very little time for this hobby, 1 hr a week in my lunch break. I am a manager at the worldwide headquarter of a multinational .
